After completing his dermatology residency in Kirksville, MO, Dr. Kuriata came to St. Joseph, MI, to begin work as a dermatologist, starting DSSC, which he owned and operated for 20 years before selling his practice to Dermatologists of Central States (DOCS). In January 2019, the practice was renamed Dermatology and Skin Surgery Center, a part of Dermatologists of Central States.
Dr. Kuriata holds a certificate of added qualifications from the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology in Mohs Micrographic Surgery for the treatment of skin cancers. By utilizing this technique, Dr. Kuriata can effectively remove skin cancers with a low recurrence rate and is skillfully trained to minimize the amount of scarring that results from this type of surgery.
Dr. Kuriata attended medical school at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery degree. He has been named a “Fellow of Distinction” by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology for his professional and educational contributions to the field of dermatology.
In addition to working as the primary dermatologist for the Dermatology and Skin Surgery Center, Dr. Kuriata is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties for Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was also the department chairman and program director for the university’s Spectrum Health Lakeland’s Dermatology Residency Program.
