What is it?
As you age, collagen and elastin production— the proteins responsible for maintaining skin structure and elasticity— naturally decreases. This reduction in collagen and elastin leads to skin losing its elasticity over time. Because of this, crow’s feet (called this due to their appearance looking like (you guessed it) the foot of a crow) develop. They can also develop due to constant squinting and smiling.
How is it treated?
Treatment for crow’s feet by one of our Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center’s skin care experts depends on the severity of your condition. Although prescription medications and topical creams may offer some improvement, Botox is typically the preferred treatment. Botox® injections temporarily relax the facial muscles in that area, preventing muscle contractions that lead to wrinkles.
We can also perform a series of chemical peels to improve the appearance of crow’s feet. We’ll apply a chemical solution to your face that removes the outer layer of skin, leaving behind a new, fresh facial appearance.
Lastly, laser resurfacing is an effective option for enhancing crow's feet and other fine lines and wrinkles across the face, neck and chest. Laser treatments can significantly rejuvenate your appearance by targeting skin texture, reducing the appearance of brown spots, minimizing pore size and smoothing out lines and wrinkles.
