Dark Eye Circles

Looming, dark circles underneath the eyes.

What is it?

Dark under-eye circles—medically referred to as periorbital hyperpigmentation—occur when the skin beneath the eyes appears noticeably darker than the facial skin.

This issue may occur due to various factors, including aging, sun damage, insufficient sleep, anxiety, hereditary factors or particular health complications such as allergies or renal problems. The not-so-fun part about these dark circles is that they can make you look tired or older than you are.

Darker under-eye circles are not a medical concern, but we understand that you may want to lighten their appearance for cosmetic reasons. We’re here to help!

How is it treated?

Your treatment journey starts with an appointment with one of our Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center’s experienced, certified providers in Adrian, Battle Creek, Dowagiac, Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Sturgis, Michigan, as well as Angola, Elkhart, Goshen and Plymouth, Indiana.

We can offer topical medications like Retin-A, laser treatments and fillers to help eradicate these dark circles. Our team will work with you to determine a treatment plan that is right for you, ensuring you're on track to bid farewell to heavy concealers in no time!
