Liposuction removes stubborn fat with suction, helping sculpt and refine body contours for a slimmer, more balanced appearance.
What is it?
Liposuction is a surgical body contouring technique designed to remove localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. Common areas treated include the abdomen, thighs, flanks, upper arms, back, and under the chin. Unlike weight loss surgery, liposuction is not intended for significant weight reduction but rather for refining specific areas of the body.
Dr. Sumita Saha, our board-certified plastic surgeon in Jackson and Battle Creek, uses tumescent or power-assisted liposuction techniques to ensure safe, precise fat removal. The tumescent method involves injecting a special solution to minimize bleeding, reduce discomfort, and protect surrounding tissues for smoother results and a faster recovery. The result is a more sculpted, contoured silhouette that aligns with your personal aesthetic goals.
What to expect
Liposuction is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment area and volume of fat removed. Small incisions are made to insert a thin cannula, which gently suctions out unwanted fat. Most patients wear compression garments for several weeks to minimize swelling and help the skin conform to its new contours. Mild bruising and soreness are common, but most people return to work within a few days. Final results continue to improve for several months as swelling subsides and fat cells removed during the procedure do not return.
