Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
What is it?
Warts are benign rough patches that appear on the skin when the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) penetrates the body through a scrape or wound on the skin. These elevated, flesh-colored protrusions can occur anywhere on the body and resemble blisters. While not life-threatening or cause for concern, many of our patients simply prefer to have them removed.
Common warts are usually detected on the hands, fingers, around the nails or the back of the hands. Plantar warts emerge on the soles of the feet and can turn painful if left untreated. Flat warts can appear anywhere on the body, and filiform warts appear thread-like on the face.
