Hair Loss & Alopecia

Hair loss, i.e., Alopecia, is a partial or complete loss of hair caused by a disruption in the hair development cycle or damage to hair follicles.

What is it?

Genetic factors, hormonal imbalances, infections and the natural aging process often trigger hair thinning and alopecia. They can also be connected to eating disorders, thyroid issues and diabetes. Essentially, alopecia is an autoimmune process in which the body's immune system targets hair follicles. This condition usually starts with small round bald patches on the scalp, which some individuals might find itchy. Complete hair loss typically transpires over a six-month timeframe.

How is it treated?

Even though there's no confirmed cure for alopecia yet, dermatologists have pioneered numerous innovative hair loss treatments, enhancing the possibility that you can stimulate hair re-growth.

Effective solutions include steroid injections and topical applications. Revolutionary Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitor prescription medicines, specifically designed to tackle the inflammation that triggers hair loss, have demonstrated remarkable efficacy for our patients. Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center boasts a team proficient in the most advanced treatments.
