A form of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) triggered by specific variants of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
What is it?
Genital warts usually manifest as tiny, flesh-colored lumps or clusters in the genital region - though they might not be instantly detectable. This condition is prevalent and impacts both genders. While genital warts can induce discomfort or anxiety due to their presence and appearance, it's crucial to understand that they are generally harmless and do not develop into cancer. Nonetheless, they can cause discomfort or pain and can occasionally result in complications during pregnancy.
How is it treated?
Our board-certified dermatologists can provide efficient and effective treatment for genital warts, alleviating symptoms and removing visible warts. These treatments are topical remedies, cryotherapy (freezing) or occasionally, minor surgical interventions. Although there is no permanent cure for the HPV virus, these treatments can control the external symptoms and inhibit further transmission.
In addition to providing treatment, our experts can suggest prevention strategies, such as HPV vaccination, and offer guidance on minimizing the risk of passing the condition on to partners. If you believe you may have genital warts, our dermatologists can confirm a diagnosis and advise you on the subsequent course of action.
