A prevalent skin condition marked by itchy, red welts of varying sizes that can manifest anywhere on the body.
What is it?
Hives, alternatively known as Urticaria, are allergic reactions instigated by diverse factors such as food, medicines, insect stings or stress. This rash typically recedes within 24 hours, but new hives may emerge, giving the illusion of the condition persisting or migrating around the body.
Chronic Urticaria is when this ailment lasts for more than six weeks. It’s rare but can indicate a more severe underlying health issue.
How is it treated?
Our board-certified dermatologists can provide effective treatments to patients plagued by hives. They begin by pinpointing the root cause and recognizing the trigger of the problem, which is vital in handling and averting future outbreaks.
If the hives are a symptom of a more severe illness, our dermatologists can also assist in detecting and addressing that. They can also offer relief by prescribing antihistamines, corticosteroids or other anti-inflammatory drugs to mitigate the itching and swelling. Hives can lead to discomfort and anxiety, but with the appropriate dermatological care, they can be effectively managed and regulated.
