What is it?

It’s a non-invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedure that shaves and skims the top layers of your skin using a surgical blade. Dermaplaning addresses common skin concerns such as dullness, uneven texture and fine facial hair—often referred to as peach fuzz. Additionally, it can help improve the appearance of mild acne scarring, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation by promoting cellular turnover and enhancing the penetration of skincare products. However, dermaplaning is not suitable for active acne, inflammatory skin conditions or those with excessive facial hair growth. 

Most people use dermaplaning on their faces, but this treatment can be performed anywhere on the body.

What to expect

Before treatment begins, one of our Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center’s skincare specialists will discuss your skin goals and examine your skin. As we begin treatment, you may feel a scratching and scraping sensation on the skin. This sensation is a normal reaction and isn’t painful. We use a gentle, sterile surgical scalpel to remove the skin cells and unwanted hair. The small blade moves back and forth across your skin, removing the top layers. 

Depending on the area being treated, the treatment can take 15-minutes to 1-hour. Once complete, we’ll apply a soothing gel or ointment to the treated areas.
